Ever since I read and loved Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre, I've been reading some more of her books. I wasn't crazy about Love, Chloe but sometimes even my favorite authors write books that I don't enjoy as much as I hoped so I decided to try another Alessandra Torre novel. I also happen to LOVE sports romances so when I saw Moonshot was coming out, I excitedly purchased it and started it as soon as I finished my previous book. I'm not sure if it's just me but I was sadly disappointed in this book. There were some parts that I really enjoyed but my overall feelings after finishing Moonshot are mostly relief because I can move onto another book.

"'Look to the moon when you swing,' he instructed. 'That's what you want. A ball that disappears into it. One that goes to the moon and past. A moonshot.'"

Tyler Rollins is seven-year-old girl when her world is turned upside-down and she comes on the road with her father, a closing pitcher for the New York Yankees. From that point on, baseball becomes her life and, as she gets older, Ty spends her days as the Yankees' bat girl, which makes it easy for her dad to keep his eye on her plus she loves the lifestyle. She feels alive on the field and loves the feel of a ball in her hands and the sounds and smells of Yankee Stadium especially. Ty doesn't let anything distract her from her love of baseball and her father makes sure all of the players keep their distance.

"And before he even tightened his grip, before that first swing that cracked open our future and sent the ball high over my head..."
"I was already done for."

Chase Stern is one of baseball's current greatest shortstops. An indiscretion sends him to the Yankees, a team that doesn't tolerate poor behavior. He's five years Ty's senior but as soon as he sets his eyes on her, he wants her. Ty's dad warns her that Chase is bad news but her heart won't listen. You can't help who you love and Ty is guided by her heart towards a man with a reputation.

"Certain loves can't be fought. The harder you tried, the harder you would be knocked back, over and over again, until it beat you into submission, until your heart caved and body surrendered. Love like that didn't know the rules of society; it didn't care about life mistakes. It only knew what must be, and what would happen - no matter what."

I loved the contemporary romance/sports romance feel of this book because those are two of my favorite genres. Ty and Chase have beautiful passion together and I could feel their love through the words of the story. I highlighted a lot of passages because several of them stood out to me and I like to remember meaningful quotations. Despite these great qualities of Moonshot, there were a few things that didn't sit well with me and overshadowed my enjoyment of this book. The writing style really bothered me. Some of the paragraphs flowed nicely but a lot of times the sentences were choppy which made it hard to read this book. Perhaps it's because I was an English Lit major in college and certain writing styles prevent me from enjoying books. A fairly big issue in this book deals with infidelity and the instances in Moonshot almost seem like it is acceptable and can be overlooked. The other part that I found disturbing is the murder mystery aspect in this book. I know many books are centered upon mysteries like this but I tend to have a weak stomach when it comes to that, so that definitely was detrimental to my enjoyment of Moonshot.

I started out really enjoying Moonshot and tore through the first several parts of it. However, the writing style. infidelity, and murder aspects caused my excitement and interest to wane as I continued reading. I feel there are definitely good parts to this book and perhaps some won't be bothered by the elements that bother me but I was overall disappointed in this book. Had I known these things about Moonshot prior to buying it, I most likely would not have purchased this book. I don't feel it's a horrible book by any means but I prefer the writing style and type of story I found in Hollywood Dirt.

Moonshot edition by Alessandra Torre Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This was my second novel I've picked up and read by Alessandra Torre. The first being Black Lies. Black Lies was a crazy twisted masterpiece and I was left reeling when I finished... so I wasn't sure what I was in for when I started Moonshot.

Tyler "Ty" Rollins grew up in a world of baseball. Her father, Frank Rollins, is a Hall-of-Fame bound closing pitcher for the prestigious New York Yankees. Baseball was in her blood. Since her mother's death when she was seven years old, Ty has accompanied the team every year, earning her spot as a batgirl. A role she took very seriously.

Enter Chase Stern, a bad boy ball player based in Los Angeles. He makes a mistake with one of his teammate's wives and he is shipped off to New York immediately. One thing that struck me as odd with this development was the Yankees pedigree for no drama and high expectations taking on this player who clearly has drama in spades. It was addressed in the book, but it made me scratch my head. Just a little blip, didn't stop me from turning pages as fast as I could.

One of my favorite parts about the book was the relationship Ty has with her father. You could feel the close knit bond between the two of them. Frank was fighting the battle of raising an independent 17-year-old girl in a male dominated world while protecting her from what he knew could come from her presence there.

Enter Chase Stern. The moment these two meet on the page, the chemistry crackles instantly. I felt it leap right off my . I loved every moment. Every glance, Every interaction. All of it. The forbidden aspect of their growing relationship made it spicy and even more captivating. The thrill for the characters was just as exciting for the readers. With every secret rendezvous, stolen moment, heart-melting kiss I fell as deeply in love with these characters as they did with one another.

As is with most "bad boys" in books, there is usually something in their past that triggers the behavior. As is the case with our hero, Chase. Memories of this moment from the past causes a lapse in judgment, which sets of the rest of the book like a domino effect. No spoilers here.

This sets up the second half of the book.

Honestly, I don't want to give away too much in my review because it's important for you to go as blind as possible. I am notorious for peeking at future chapters or sneaking the last few pages at the end of the book, but this time, I NEEDED to be surprised.

There is definitely a knock-your-socks off romance throughout the entire novel. It's a heart-pounding, swoonworthy, catch-your-breath kind of romance swirled around a mystery that will keep the pace of the second half going along at a brisk pace. You won't want to put down the book. You have to reach the pinnacle to find out just how this story will unfold. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed. I promise.
4½ Star Review

Alessandra never fails to amaze me with her stories and storytelling. Never. I have yet to want to put her books down. Once I start, I want them to last forever, meanwhile wanting to get to the end at the same time.

I thought this book was going to be a love story with a baseball player in it. And it was, and it was also a little bit of a mystery that I hadn't expected. At first, I was confused about some pieces. I couldn't figure out where they fit with the story. Then, the pieces started to fall into place and all I could think was, "You little sneaky devil Alessandra. Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky".

Like I said, I have liked/loved every book of Alessandra's that I have read. And like I said, when I started this book I thought it was just a romance... So... if you know my tastes in genres, I am not one to usually like romance. Not nice romance. This is a little nice, a little raw and a lot of intrigue. I know that isn't really a genre. But still, it wasn't what I thought it would be. I am happy about that.

This story unfolds at such a pace I found myself wanting to get to the end but wanting more too. Between the lies, secrets, angst and twisted love story, I didn't want to put this book down.
